Mendy was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021, leading Manchester City to suspend him without pay. In 2024, an employment tribunal ruled in Mendy's favour, awarding him around £11 million in unpaid wages. Mendy said in a statement: "I am delighted with the decision and sincerely hope that the club will now do the honourable thing and pay the outstanding amounts."

After his court case concluded, Mendy signed a two-year deal with French club Lorient but left after 18 months due to an injury-plagued stint. He then joined Swiss club FC Zurich, but his contract was terminated by mutual consent after five months. Mendy moved to Polish club Pogon Szczecin and made his debut in November 2024. On April 6, 2025, he started a 2-0 home defeat to Legia Warsaw but was substituted at half-time. On social media, Mendy wrote: "Not the place we want to be at this point of the season but there's still time to work and make it better."
