McGregor Settles Lobov Whiskey Dispute Ahead of UFC Return
Key Points
  • McGregor settled a legal dispute with Lobov over Proper No. Twelve whiskey proceeds, avoiding a trial.
  • McGregor has not fought for almost five years and is preparing for a UFC return this summer.
  • McGregor remains a top UFC star with potential opponents like Max Holloway for his comeback.

Conor McGregor settled his dispute with former fighter Artem Lobov, who had sought legal action over the proceeds of the sale of a whiskey brand that later became Proper No. Twelve. The matter was due for trial in Dublin’s High Court on Wednesday, but Lobov’s barrister Liam Bell told Mr Justice John Jordan in the morning that matters were progressing.

The judge said he would put the matter back for a short period, and when parties returned in the afternoon, barrister Andrew Walker, also for Mr Lobov, said matters had been resolved and a settlement agreement was handed into the court. As part of the settlement, Mr McGregor’s barrister Mark Lynam read out a statement on his behalf, and the judge complimented the parties for reaching an agreement, which he said was sensible, rather than consuming the court’s time over what was ultimately a matter of negotiation between them both. After the hearing, Mr Lobov said he was happy with the resolution, but McGregor was not present for the proceedings.

I’m satisfied that this matter has been resolved and I can focus on my training and this summer’s fight. I want to thank Artem for his hard work for my whiskey business.

Conor McGregor sold his stake in Proper No. Twelve to Proximo Spirits in 2021, with the sale reportedly for more than $130 million (£96 million). Conor McGregor has not fought for almost five years, since he broke his leg in the first round of his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier five years ago.

He is closing in on a return to the cage this summer, having been tipped to return on July 11 in Las Vegas. McGregor had been due to return two years ago against Michael Chandler but pulled out of the fight at two weeks' notice with a broken toe. The Irishman is expected to headline the UFC's flagship card on International Fight Week.

I’m coming back to do what I do. Knock people out for my money.
