According to official sources, Maud Angelica Behn created a vase based on the bottom of her father's heart vase to honor him. Ari Behn worked with glassblowers at Magnor Glassverk about 20 years ago, and glassblowers Cato Amundsen and Bjørn Olav Rønhovde, who worked with him then, also assisted Maud. Ari Behn had expressed a wish to collaborate with his daughter at the glassworks.
Maud Angelica Behn was 16 when her father died by suicide in 2019. She attended the art program at Oslo by Steiner School and debuted with her own exhibition in 2022, primarily working with paintings and graphic methods. According to NRK Innlandet, she described the experience as "absolutely insane" and said she has many good memories of her father working with glass. She noted it feels incredible to follow in his footsteps and honor him with the vase.
It's absolutely insane what you achieve!
Through her art, Maud Angelica Behn aims to promote openness about mental health and suicide prevention. According to NRK Innlandet, she expressed a desire for people to talk more about these issues and reduce shame, hoping that her work encourages conversation and seeking help. The names, prices, and number of pieces in the series have not been disclosed, nor have specific beneficiary organizations been announced.
I have so many good memories of him working with this, and I was so fascinated by it. It feels truly incredible to be here now and do what he did.
It's very nice to be able to follow a little in his footsteps and honor him with the vase.
For me, it has meant so much to talk to others, feel seen, and be there for each other. I wanted to express that in this vase with two people looking at each other.
I really want us to talk more about this and that there can be less shame around it. I have a wish that people can talk to each other and ask for help.
I knew nothing about glassblowing, so this is a completely new world for me. Everyone here is so talented and it's very fun to learn what is possible with glass.
