Runner-level, rank, inventory, Vault, credits, and faction upgrades will be reset when Season 2 starts. According to multiple reports, players will keep only their cosmetic items after the seasonal reset. Bungie has stated that unlocked cosmetic items, codex entries, unlocked factions, and premium currencies LUX and Silk will be retained.
The developer will also reward players who participated in the first season with sponsored kits, with rarity based on the level reached before the reset. The exact rewards tied to specific levels have not been detailed. 9 is scheduled for release on May 19, according to multiple reports.
From that date, locked room keys are guaranteed to drop from Wardens for the remainder of the season, and map events like Intercept, Lockdown, Warden spawns, Convoy, and Anomaly will be guaranteed on each run. Faction experience gains from all sources are increased through the end of the season. Cryo Archive will be available every day from May 21 through June 2, with a free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit sent to players' mailboxes daily.
Ranked Cryo will run from May 24 at 10AM PT to May 28 at 10AM PT, with loadout requirements of 3,000 for low stakes and 10,000 for high stakes. Regular Cryo will not be available during the Ranked period. UESC presence will increase across Tau Ceti IV in response to Runner activity, multiple reports indicate.
Wardens can spawn at new points of interest in Perimeter, Dire Marsh, and Outpost. UESC dropship flyovers and crash sites will increase on Perimeter, providing opportunities to seize supplies. The UESC will also deploy a new threat on Dire Marsh and Perimeter to shut down Runner activity.
Season 2: Nightfall will introduce a new Night Marsh zone, a new Runner shell, new weapons, and a new Cradle system to customize Runner shell stats. Improvements include faster faction progression, larger vault storage space, and quality-of-life updates. A PvE-focused experimental mode with a light touch of PvP will be added at the start of the season, and Duos mode will return with a rotating queue.
Bungie is also exploring pure PvP, PvE, and PvP-lite experiences for the game. Full details about Season 2 will be revealed in the week of May 25, according to multiple reports, though some sources had earlier suggested the reveal would come towards the end of the month. Beyond Season 2, Bungie plans to add a new zone with alien elements and mind-warping debuffs, new enemies, weapons, and new exfil methods.
In Season 3, the developer will improve the onboarding experience to make Marathon less overwhelming. Marathon launched in March to critical acclaim but has struggled to attract wider appeal, according to multiple reports. It has struck a chord with hardcore Bungie fans.
