Man Found Dead in Castleview Park House Fire, Investigation Underway
Key Points
  • A man was found dead in a house fire at Castleview Park, Edenderry, with an investigation ongoing.
  • The scene is preserved for forensic examination, and Gardai are appealing for information, with a post-mortem scheduled.
  • This follows a previous deadly arson at the same property in December 2025 that killed a child and his great-aunt.

The fire occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, with emergency services attending the scene. An Garda Siochana said the scene was preserved for forensic examination, and Gardai are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death, which is expected to take place at Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore on Wednesday.

The cause of the fire and whether it is suspicious remain unknown, and the identity of the deceased has not been released. This incident echoes a previous tragedy at the same property. In December 2025, four-year-old Tadhg Farrell and his great-aunt Mary Holt were murdered after a fire was deliberately started at the same property.

People just don't know what to think.

The young boy's grandmother received hospital treatment for serious burn injuries in that blaze. A man in his late 20s detained on suspicion of murder was released without charge in January. On Tuesday afternoon, Gardai were carrying out door-to-door inquiries and fingertip searches in the nearby area.

The privately owned house at Castleview Park had been occupied by relatives of Mary Holt, despite being partially boarded up following the devastating attack. Tadgh's grandmother, Pauline Holt, who is in her 50s, was seriously injured in that incident. A prison row is thought to have sparked the horrific double murder, with an inmate moved to a solitary cell in Portlaoise Prison, suspected of orchestrating the tragic blaze.

Community reaction has been one of shock and confusion. According to Daily Mail - News, local councillor Fergus McDonnell described that neighbors were alerted by their smoke alarms going off, and he noted the fire was intense and what happened was horrendous. He added that the local community can't comprehend a second fatal fire has happened at the same house, and people just don't know what to think.
