According to reports from Norrländska Socialdemokraten, the incident occurred when the intoxicated driver struck the girls with his vehicle. The man was convicted at Gällivare District Court for aggravated drunk driving, hit-and-run, and aggravated assault causing bodily injury.

He received a conditional sentence and 75 hours of community service. Had he been sentenced to prison instead, the sentence would have been one and a half months. The court also ordered the man to pay 40,000 kronor in damages to the injured teenage girl and an additional 1,000 kronor to the crime victim fund.
