A 45-year-old man has been sentenced to one year in prison for burglary and theft in Kalmar. In January, he broke into a residence and stole a jacket and three beers. The man was discovered by a teenage child in the family who was home on Christmas break.
The child woke up and heard heavy footsteps in the home, then found the 45-year-old. The man was not threatening and was helped out of the residence. Afterward, it was discovered that a jacket was missing from the home and three beers had disappeared from the refrigerator.
When the 45-year-old, who has previous convictions for several crimes, was later arrested, he was wearing a jacket identical to the one that disappeared. The man has denied the crime, but the district court found him proven guilty because his DNA and a personal note with his name were left in the apartment.
