The victims in the Golders Green attack are Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76. Rand has been discharged from hospital, while Shine remains in stable condition. Suleiman faces an additional attempted murder charge for a separate incident in Southwark earlier that day.
The UK's terrorism threat level has been raised to 'severe', meaning an attack is 'highly likely'. The Home Office stated the raise is not solely due to the Golders Green incident. Suleiman is originally from Somalia and arrived in the UK legally as a child during the 1990s. He was previously reported to the Prevent anti-extremism programme in 2020, but the case was closed the same year. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood confirmed Suleiman is a British national.
Our thoughts remain with the victims involved and specialist officers continue to provide them with support as their recovery continues. We are determined to get justice for the victims and now that a person has been charged, I would urge everyone to avoid any further speculation in relation to this case so that justice can run its course.
Suleiman is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday. Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said: 'Our thoughts remain with the victims involved and specialist officers continue to provide them with support as their recovery continues. We are determined to get justice for the victims and now that a person has been charged, I would urge everyone to avoid any further speculation in relation to this case so that justice can run its course.'
