  • Attack attempt and immediate response
  • Background: Immigration history and asylum claim

Abdullah Albadri, 34, is accused of plotting a terror attack on the Israeli embassy in Kensington on April 28 last year. He allegedly attempted to break into the Israeli embassy armed with two knives and a martyrdom note, with prosecutors stating his motivation was to exact revenge for the killing of children in Gaza. Albadri was stopped by armed police after leaping on an eight-foot fence surrounding the embassy building, and diplomatic protection officers grabbed him before he could get inside the embassy building. Shortly before the attack, Albadri messaged his mother saying he was going to be 'martyred in the way of Allah'.

Albadri arrived in Dover via a small boat in 2021 and applied for permission to remain in the UK, but he failed to attend a Home Office interview in 2023. He re-entered the UK on a small boat from France on April 12 last year, just days before the embassy attack, and was given temporary accommodation at a hotel in Basingstoke. There, he applied for asylum, claiming he was a 'human rights activist' who had been arrested in Kuwait in 2011. On April 24, Albadri told an associate that the Home Office had refused his asylum claim and he didn't have money to pay for a train ticket to Liverpool to make further submissions for an appeal.

Prosecutors allege Albadri started researching the location of the Israeli Embassy on April 24 and searched in Arabic for weapons including a Palestinian sniper. According to Daily Mail - News, Abdullah Albadri described that he wanted to send a message, to stop the killing of children, to stop the war. The prosecution has highlighted that the existence and contents of his suspected martyrdom note, along with his possession of two knives, and material downloaded from his mobile phone, demonstrate his intention to use violence against people inside the Israeli embassy and sacrifice his own life in the process - to die, in his words, 'for the glory of God'.
