According to a report in Skånska Dagbladet, Malmö-based business couple Elisabeth Bergendahl and Spiros Mylonopoulos sold their grocery chain City Gross to food retail giant Axfood for more than four billion kronor approximately two years ago. The couple, who founded the City Gross concept in the 1990s, reportedly found the sale of their life's work emotionally difficult. Bergendahl, 79, who lives in central Malmö, took over the family business after her parents' passing, leaving her career as a physiotherapist to manage billion-kronor deals.
The report indicates she now hopes the next generation will continue to grow the Scanian trade empire through new investments. The Bergendahl-Mylonopoulos family maintains a second home in the exclusive residential area La Croix des Gardes in western Cannes on the French Riviera.
