Malmö FF's new signing Yanis Karabelyov made his debut in a 1-0 win over Varbergs BoIS in the Swedish Cup on Sunday. The 30-year-old Bulgarian midfielder, who joined from Partizan Belgrade earlier in February on a two-year contract, reportedly turned down German club Schalke 04 to sign with Malmö FF. Malmö FF coach Miguel Ángel Ramírez said Karabelyov had looked very good in training and contributed experience, game sense, and balance.
Karabelyov, who has 12 caps for Bulgaria, described the weather as cold but praised the pitch and atmosphere, thanking supporters for attending despite the conditions. According to reports, he played as a defensive midfielder, showing discipline and good passing ability.
