Residents in Lund are voicing strong opposition to planned traffic changes at the city's Västra station, fearing the loss of green space and increased traffic congestion near their homes. According to reports, Lunds kommun plans to rebuild the western side of Lund C station, which would involve removing approximately 30 trees and constructing a new bus lane just 10 meters from residential buildings in Bjerredsparken.
The plan includes relocating the taxi stand to the western side of Mittelbron and creating a permanent location for replacement buses near track 6. When Bangatan closes to car traffic, the western side would handle all vehicle access to the station, including private cars and taxis. Lokföraregatan would be widened at the expense of Bjerredsparken.
We are desperate
Residents Mats Olsson, Pirjo Termonen, and Mats Lennartsson, who live at Västra stationstorget 14, expressed their concerns. "We are desperate," said Mats Olsson, who has lived in the building since 2004 and is active in local politics for Vänsterpartiet. Pirjo Termonen added, "We become hostages here in the middle. We are surrounded by traffic."
The residents argue that their living environment will be dramatically changed, with the two yellow brick houses becoming sandwiched between heavily trafficked roads. They also expressed disappointment at not being included in discussions about the plans. The proposal is scheduled to go to politicians in the building committee for discussion after public consultation.
