Lund playground features real Saab car as toy

Key Points
  • A playground in Lund uses a real Saab car as a toy.
  • The theme references the area's history as a waste disposal site.
  • The car was made safe by removing hazardous parts.

A new playground in the Sankt Hans area of Lund, Sweden, has a theme called "Tippen," a nod to the area's past as a waste disposal site. The playground includes a scrapped Saab from 1979 that has been repurposed as a toy, which is very popular with children. According to project leader Herman Friedlander, when considering ordering a new toy car, it did not feel right because new ones do not look as realistic.

Instead, a real car was purchased and rebuilt, with all dangerous fluids drained and engine parts removed. Friedlander said this was something they had not done before and was a slightly daring attempt.
