Luleå Municipality has completed one of its largest infrastructure projects in history, according to local reports. The Östra länken water and sewage project, which began in 2014, was finalized in February 2026 after twelve years of construction. The project's endpoint is the newly constructed intake section at the Uddebo wastewater treatment plant, where despite handling the initial processing of Luleå's sewage, the air reportedly remains fresh and the facility clean.
' The project aimed to increase the capacity of Luleå's water and sewage system to accommodate population growth. More than two miles of new water and sewage pipes have been laid underground, along with the construction of four major pumping stations and the replacement of several smaller ones. The completion marks a significant milestone in Luleå's infrastructure development, enabling future expansion of the city.
