Key Points
  • Luleå's Loet bus station is being upgraded for long-term safety and comfort.
  • The station serves about half a million travelers annually and is a key hub for the region.
  • Public input will be gathered in April via surveys and on-site installations.

The bus station in Luleå city center, known as Loet, has been perceived as unsafe by many. In the autumn, guards were deployed to increase safety, but now Länstrafiken and the municipality are investing in a long-term solution. The joint effort aims to upgrade and develop the bus station into a safe meeting place for passengers, drivers, and residents.

Loet is seen as an important hub for commuters and tourists, with around half a million travelers each year. Mattias Bergdahl, CEO of Länstrafiken, says Loet is often people's first encounter with Luleå and a key traffic node for all of Norrbotten, making it extra important that it is a place where travelers feel welcome and safe. The plan is to make the existing bus station as good as possible until a future travel center is ready.
