Luleå University of Technology is establishing a new artistic institution, according to an official statement. The institution will include both artistic and artistic-technical research, bringing together about 90 employees and 900 full-year students with activities in both Luleå and Piteå. It will combine four educational and research subjects currently organized at different departments: musical performance, scenic production, design, and architecture, and is scheduled to start on January 1, 2027.
Luleå University of Technology has received approval from the Swedish Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) to issue a psychology degree, according to major media reports. The first psychology students will be welcomed in autumn 2025, with the program providing 35 new study places each autumn. It is a five-year professional education leading to a psychology degree, comprising 300 higher education credits, and emphasizes digital work methods, such as distance treatment via video and internet platforms.
After completed studies and one year of practical service as a psychologist, students can apply for licensure from the National Board of Health and Welfare. As part of the psychology program, Luleå University of Technology will open a psychology clinic where students under supervision can practice their skills, according to major media reports. The clinic will receive clients with mild to moderate mental illness and will also be used for research.
