Key Points
  • Barbro Englund's Luleå apartment has been as cold as 16 degrees Celsius this winter due to drafts and inadequate sealing.
  • Lulebo, the landlord, says sealing repairs are planned but must wait for warmer weather to ensure quality work.
  • Other tenants in the area report similar cold issues, with ice forming on the inside of windows.

Barbro Englund has had an indoor temperature between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius for large parts of this winter. She measured the temperature on her living room table. There is a vent above the living room window that lets in icy cold air.

"If I close the vent, I get no air supply and the indoor air becomes stagnant," Englund said. The landlord has sealed the balcony door and front door during the winter in an attempt to raise the temperature. According to Englund, the sealing efforts have helped a little, but the fundamental problems with cold and drafts are not solved.

If I close the vent, I get no air supply and the indoor air becomes stagnant.

Barbro Englund, Tenant

Several of Barbro Englund's acquaintances in the area report having similar problems, including ice on the inside of windows. According to the Tenants' Association, Barbro Englund is not alone in having this problem. Pär Nordberg, head of property management at Lulebo, stated, "It has been a longer period with very cold outdoor temperatures, which can affect the experience of drafts around windows – especially in older buildings.

" Lulebo plans to carry out necessary sealing as soon as the weather permits. " It is not known how many tenants in the area are experiencing similar cold problems. The specific timeline for Lulebo's sealing work has not been announced.

We live up here in the north and it gets cold every winter. The heat in the apartments should be prioritized. How hard can it be?

Englund expressed frustration, saying, "We live up here in the north and it gets cold every winter. The heat in the apartments should be prioritized.

It has been a longer period with very cold outdoor temperatures, which can affect the experience of drafts around windows – especially in older buildings. Sealing measures such as window sealing are, however, temperature-dependent and need to be performed under warmer weather conditions for materials and work to maintain good quality.

That our tenants have a good indoor climate is important to us, and we work continuously to ensure a good living environment.
