After the park department of the municipality prepared the site, the after-school center children decorated the Easter tree with colorful eggs and Easter bunnies and even self-composed Easter music. The work on the Easter tree is part of the teaching in the after-school centers. According to Luleå kommun (official), Åsa Öystilä described the engagement as great, especially when the students' Easter decorations were put up on the pedestrian street.
The tree includes a large variation of creations: colorful eggs and Easter bunnies in silk paper that shine in the spring sun, mandala patterns, felted eggs, texts about why we celebrate Easter, greetings like 'Happy Easter' in different languages, QR codes leading to self-created songs made with AI, and a completely own song where students created the text and then sang it to music composed by a music teacher. Älvens fritids offers an Easter rap to those who scan the QR code. The initiative is backed by after-school centers from Mariebergsskolan, Rutviksskolan, Råneskolan, Sunderbyskolan, Stadsöskolan, and Öhemsskolan.
It was an amazing experience to get to put up all the students' creations. Many stopped by, showed appreciation, and thanked us for contributing to making the urban environment so beautiful.
We could never have believed that so many would want to participate. There were so many who stopped by and thought it was so fantastic that our after-school centers got to be part of decorating in the city center.
