SocietySociety
Key Points
  • Luleå's public library will start lending cultural and sports tickets in March 2026.
  • The service is based on resident surveys showing high interest in experience access.
  • It includes items like swimming pool passes, lift tickets, and event tickets as part of a one-year pilot.

The new service, based on an extensive survey of Luleå residents, responds to a great interest in accessing experiences beyond traditional library items. According to officials, the initiative will offer loans including swimming pool passes to Luleå's swimming halls, lift passes to Måttsundsbacken, match tickets to Luleå Basket and BC Luleå, and tickets to Kulturens hus for events like the Dance Series, Classical Series, and Jazz Series. All tickets and experiences can be picked up at the City Library, except for swimming pool passes, which are available at Gammelstad Library and Råneå Library.

Sofia Lundmark, unit manager for libraries in Luleå, stated that the goal is to give more people the opportunity to try something new and lower thresholds to culture and leisure, reinforcing libraries as inclusive resources. The pilot project will run for one year and aligns with the municipality's work on circular services and social sustainability, aiming to enable participation regardless of economy or prior knowledge. However, specific details such as the number of items available, borrowing rules like loan periods or limits, and eligibility criteria have not been disclosed.

The success of the pilot and potential expansion to other libraries or items after the year remain to be evaluated.
