Laurence des Cars has resigned as director of the Louvre Museum in Paris. The resignation follows a jewel heist at the museum in October last year. According to reports, she had faced criticism over security failures after the robbery.
In a statement, the French president's office reportedly hailed her resignation as an act of responsibility, saying the museum needs appeasement and new impetus for security projects. A parliamentary inquiry reportedly found major security shortcomings at the Louvre before the heist. Four men reportedly stole jewels worth nearly a billion kronor in the robbery, and most of the loot has not been recovered.
