Liberal Politician Becomes First Representative in Rural Ramsjö
Key Points
  • Henrik Estander is the first politician to live in Ramsjö, addressing rural representation gaps.
  • His political engagement was motivated by a homophobic incident during his restaurant career.
  • Estander now focuses on local issues like wind power revenue and preschool availability in Ramsjö.

In 2021, SVT Gävleborg reported that politicians in Ljusdal municipality primarily lived in Ljusdal, Färila, and Järvsö, with the large area leaving rural areas with few representatives in the municipal council. At that time, one representative lived in Hennan and two in Los, but none in Ramsjö. Now, Ramsjö has its first politician, with opposition councilor Henrik Estander residing there.

Estander started his career in the restaurant industry, working at establishments such as Riche in Stockholm, Krakas krog on Gotland, and Laponia in Arvidsjaur. The purchase of his own restaurant in Järvsö made him move back to Ljusdal, and a homophobic comment from a person passing by the restaurant motivated his political engagement. Since 2024, Estander lives in Ramsjö with his boyfriend, dog Greta, and a bunch of chickens.

The house was initially intended as a shared vacation home but quickly became a permanent residence. He is pushing issues about wind power money to the village and investigating a preschool in the Ramsjö area again.
