Lekeberg municipality in Örebro County is reportedly considering withdrawing from the Vätternvatten water project, a major infrastructure initiative that could increase costs for remaining participating municipalities. According to SVT Örebro, Lekeberg has decided to investigate alternatives to participating in the large-scale project, which aims to provide drinking water from Lake Vättern to secure long-term water supplies as populations grow.
The Vätternvatten project involves multiple municipalities in the county drawing drinking water from Lake Vättern. Originally, eight municipalities were involved, but currently four municipalities jointly own the Vätternvatten company: Örebro, Kumla, Hallsberg, and Lekeberg. Lekeberg is now exploring other options because officials believe the Vätternvatten project may become too expensive.
the company's mission is to carry out the project
If Lekeberg withdraws, costs would likely increase for water and sewage subscribers in Hallsberg, Kumla, and Örebro. Despite the potential departure, Mårten Frumerie, CEO of Vätternvatten, appears unconcerned, stating that their mission is to ensure the project is completed. The project's goal is to secure water access in the long term as populations increase and current water solutions may become insufficient.
