The 39-year-old forward now stands just a few games behind Robert Parish's record of 1,611 NBA games played, though he has not decided whether he will continue playing next season. Kevin Durant said LeBron James can play until he is 45 years old, adding to speculation about his future in the league. James' longevity has been a defining feature of his career, with this latest achievement highlighting his sustained excellence over two decades in the NBA.
Health challenges have marked James' season, with reports indicating he missed the start due to sciatica and has sat out games because of arthritis in his left foot. These injuries have raised questions about his physical condition as he continues to chase records. His teammates Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves are also injured and out indefinitely, leaving their exact return timelines uncertain. The specific details of James' injuries and their long-term impact remain unclear, creating uncertainty for the Lakers' playoff push.
Everything, so nothing changes for me. Just back to the old ways.
Despite teammate absences, Dončić delivered standout performances before his injury. He broke Kobe Bryant's record for most points scored by a Lakers player in a calendar month with 579 points in March, and hit an overtime game-winning shot for the Lakers against the Denver Nuggets. Dončić's scoring outburst came during a critical stretch for the Lakers, showcasing his ability to carry the offensive load when needed.
Personal moments surrounded James' record-breaking game. LeBron James wore a special jersey patch to commemorate becoming the all-time leader in made field goals, though the official NBA policy on such patches is not publicly detailed. James' daughter Zhuri made a trick shot during warmups before a Lakers game against the Golden State Warriors on February 28, adding a family touch to the milestone season. These gestures highlighted the personal significance of the achievement for James and his family.
How come they didn’t give him one for most FGs missed?
James plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, as confirmed by multiple reports. Whether James will break Parish's games played record this season remains unknown, as does the full extent of fan backlash beyond social media comments about his jersey patch. The Lakers' ability to overcome injuries and make a playoff run also remains uncertain, with key players sidelined indefinitely.
Idk this seems a little bit much. The supposed GOAT shouldn't need to wear a silly a** patch on his jersey.
Stats are cool but patches feel like participation trophies.
That is so cheesy and arrogant. Really shows what he is about.
Being mentioned with some of the greatest to ever play this game has always been humbling. I grew up watching, reading [about], idolising a lot of the greats, and if I was able to be part of the NBA, I wanted to put myself in position that I can be named with some of the greats by doing something right. It's a pretty cool feat, but it's hard for me to kind of wrap my head around it or what it looks like.
Just a big-time shot by a generational player. He's just a big-time player, man. It's going to be just the first of many game winners like that for him in a Lakers uniform.
I think all of us have heard it from our coaches when we were little: the first man to the floor usually gets the ball. So, that's just my little league coach kind of in my head at that moment, understanding the significance of it.
