A truck driver has been sentenced to prison for document forgery by the Östersund District Court after using another person's driver's license card in his vehicle's tachograph. According to SVT Jämtlandsnytt, the 40-year-old Romanian citizen was attempting to drive longer shifts than legally permitted by circumventing the tachograph system, which logs driving hours and rest periods to ensure compliance with Swedish regulations.

The driver was arrested during a police check along the E45 highway in Häggnäs. He neither denied nor admitted to the crime but acknowledged using another person's driver's license card. The court found him guilty of document forgery for this manipulation of the tachograph system.

This marks the driver's second conviction for similar offenses. Two years ago, he received a conditional sentence for a comparable crime in Haparanda. Because his probation period was still active, the Östersund District Court had no alternative but to impose a prison sentence, according to the court's judgment.
