Lars Barstad Løvold, who has served as first deputy leader for the past two years, was nominated by the nomination committee to succeed Simen Velle as leader of FpU. He now aims to build the organization further ahead of the local election in 2027. The leadership transition comes as FpU seeks to capitalize on recent success, having become the largest party with 26 percent of student support in the 2025 school election.
At the national meeting, the election of a new central board will take place at 16:00, with Lars Andreas Scheide Vartdal from Rauma elected as first deputy leader and Kasper Johansen from Kristiansund as second deputy leader. They will be joined on the central board by Sander Furunes from Agder, Filip Czyz from Telemark, Angelika Bjørnerud from Oslo, and Michelle Emilie Schurmann Jensen from Buskerud. It remains unclear whether Løvold was officially elected as leader at the meeting, and the reasons for Velle's departure have not been disclosed.
I look forward to continuing the fight for a freer future. The Labor Party government has ruled the country for almost five years and people are getting less and less freedom over their own lives and everyday lives.
Now Norway needs freedom.
Whether it concerns what subjects students should have at school, where they should receive care, or how they want to organize their lives.
We need stronger local branches across the whole country and will build more political talents ahead of the local election next autumn.
