A woman in Kungsbacka reported to police that she was a victim of fraud. The fraud occurred on Thursday evening. According to the woman, she was called by someone claiming to be from an insurance company.
Under the pretense of a burglary wave in the area and that her valuables needed protection, she was persuaded to hand over items including jewelry and bank cards to a person who arrived at her home during the call. Police were on site on Friday for information gathering and filed a report on fraud. There is no estimated value yet of what the fraudsters obtained, and no suspect in the case.
The method follows the same pattern as several similar recent cases in the region, primarily targeting the elderly. Police urge increased vigilance regarding this issue, noting that neighbors and home care staff have made important observations in similar cases. Tips can be reported to 114 14, or 112 in emergencies.
