A 25-year-old woman from Jämtland has been detained on suspicion of committing five cases of arson in Östersund, according to official sources. The woman was detained by Sundsvall District Court on Sunday on probable grounds for the alleged crimes. Among the fires she is suspected of setting is a major blaze in a carport in central Östersund earlier this week, where five vehicles were destroyed and a public warning was issued due to smoke development.

She is also suspected of setting fire to a laundry room on Artillerigatan on Thursday, the same day she was arrested and taken into custody. According to the Swedish Prosecution Authority, prosecutor Annika Collin confirmed that a formal detention request had been submitted to Östersunds District Court. Prosecutor Tobias Kajbring stated that the suspicions had been expanded from two to five fires.
