The principal for grades F-6 at Skogstorpsskolan in Kumla has unexpectedly resigned, causing concern among teachers. According to opposition councilor Christian Liljenhed (L), the principal's decision is due to insufficient financial resources. Municipal council chairman Andreas Brorsson (S) stated the school received an increase of nearly 41 million this year, but the administration did not get the extra 45 million they wanted.
The majority gave an extra 14 million, while the Liberals wanted 31 million. After the resignation, the municipality is implementing two assistant principals, one for grades F-3 and another for grades 4-6, with the transition starting after the principal's last day on Tuesday. The temporary solution will continue until summer break, after which a more permanent solution is hoped for.
There have been many principal resignations in recent years, and each time it's as if we teachers have to start from scratch again.
Teacher Daniel Eriksson expressed frustration about staffing challenges, noting 26 to 29 children per class with one teacher. The principal does not want to speak to the media, and the exact reasons beyond financial allegations remain unclear.
It is concerning when a principal does not think she gets the financial framework she needs.
