Kronoberg launches bus ads amid transport disruptions and operator struggles
Key Points
  • Advertising on regional public transport buses starts April 1, targeting daily commuters.
  • Temporary closures at Växjö station area begin February 23 due to construction work.
  • Connect Bus reports operational inefficiencies and large financial losses in Kronoberg.

From April 1, it will be possible to buy advertising space on regional public transport buses, according to official sources. Public transport reaches many people every day throughout the county, making it a potentially lucrative platform for advertisers. The advertising will be visible on the backs of city buses and on the digital infotainment screens on board all buses.

These screens are currently used for the regional transport's own information but will now be supplemented with advertisements and other local messages. The exact terms for purchasing advertising space have not been disclosed. From February 23, Växjö municipality will begin completing the station area in Växjö, official sources said.

Parts of the area will be temporarily closed during the work. How these closures will affect bus routes and schedules remains unclear. Connect Bus has informed Region Kronoberg that the company has not managed to operate bus traffic in Kronoberg as efficiently as planned, according to official statements.

This has led to large financial losses for the company, though the specific amounts have not been confirmed. On August 16, Länstrafiken Kronoberg invites to the inauguration of its new electric city buses, official sources reported. The specifications and environmental impact of these buses have not been detailed, and how the public can specifically influence the development of public transport for 2027-2035 is unknown.
