Kenyan runner Albert Korir, 32, has been banned for five years after testing positive for a banned substance. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced the ban on Monday. Korir reportedly tested positive for traces of the prohibited substance cera, which stimulates red blood cell production and acts as blood doping.

The ban is effective from January 8 this year, and all his results from October 3, 2025, are voided. Korir won the New York Marathon in 2021 and has since placed second and third in the event multiple times. Kenya is reportedly facing a widespread doping scandal, with its national anti-doping agency (Adak) suspending 27 athletes, mostly runners, earlier in March for alleged doping violations pending investigations.
