Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, 39, has reportedly said his football career may be over due to a shoulder injury. He has not played since February 22, when his club Celtic lost to Hibernian. Schmeichel reportedly received a diagnosis on Monday that his shoulder is mostly damaged and requires two operations, with rehabilitation expected to take around a year.
He said he could be over 40 by the time he is fit again, and that returning would be one of the biggest achievements of his career. Schmeichel joined Celtic in the summer of 2024 after leaving Belgian club Anderlecht, and has played 88 competitive matches for Celtic, keeping 38 clean sheets. He previously won the Premier League with Leicester City in the 2015/2016 season and has made 120 appearances for Denmark.
