Lyckeby bibliotek in Karlskrona has launched a new initiative to create more inclusive library spaces by offering exclusive opening hours for people with NPF (neuropsychiatric) diagnoses. The library will hold special "NPF-open" sessions on Saturdays April 11 and May 16 between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM.
According to library staff, the initiative aims to create a calmer, safer, and more stripped-down environment that may be easier for neurodivergent individuals to navigate. "The environment becomes a little calmer, a little safer, and a little more stripped down. We think that can be easier for these people," said Helén Karlsson, librarian at Lyckeby bibliotek.

Lyckeby bibliotek is reportedly the first library in Karlskrona municipality to implement this type of initiative. The program is being introduced as a pilot this spring, with potential for expansion to other municipal libraries if there is positive response and expressed need from the community.
The move represents a growing trend in public services to create more accessible and inclusive environments for neurodivergent individuals, recognizing that standard operating hours and environments may present barriers to some visitors.
