The concert, organised by Raya Culture, has been mired in controversy after reports suggested that West might be barred from entering the country. However, Torcato Jorge, CEO and co-founder of Raya Culture, dismissed the security concerns as a 'non-issue' motivated by 'misinformation', according to Euronews. He stated that the Portuguese Intelligence Service (SIS) did not identify West as a national threat or terrorist, and that Civil Protection has authorised the safety project for the venue.
Jorge clarified that the only country that has vetoed West's entry is the United Kingdom, which is no longer part of the European Union. He noted that no EU member state has blocked West's entry. West previously cancelled a concert in France after the mayor of Marseille objected to his presence. Jorge expressed confidence that the Portugal show would proceed without incident.
It's a music event that's going to happen. It would become an issue if the services identified a national threat to public order, which is not the case.
The SIS did not identify the artist, or in this case the US citizen, as a national threat or a terrorist.
There has to be a state internal security report saying that this citizen cannot enter the country.
Each country is free to decide whether or not to allow a citizen to enter, but in the European Union there has been no country that has vetoed their entry into national territory.
There's no fear whatsoever that he'll take the same stance as he did in France.
Civil Protection has just authorised our safety project for the venue, so everything is fine.
