According to SVT Småland, Kalmar municipality plans to buy Vamos Padel for 32 million kronor. The purchase proposal will be presented at the municipal board meeting next Tuesday. Kalmar municipality states that buying Vamos Padel is cheaper than building a new facility.
Vamos Padel went bankrupt in 2024 and has been empty since then. Barometern-OT reports that Kalmar municipality presented plans on Wednesday to buy Vamos' old padel hall and build several beach volleyball courts in the premises. The news was positively received by Kalmar volleyball club, which has actively worked for a new indoor hall for beach volleyball for two years, according to Barometern-OT.
The hall is prepared with large free areas for easy conversion to handle activities like skateboarding and beach volleyball. It contains changing rooms and a 'hangout area' suitable for lifestyle sports. And here there is potential to in the future develop more space for multiple activities.
Kalmar municipality notes that the purchase provides new conditions for the beach volleyball club, as the nearest indoor hall currently is in Gislaved and Linköping. The purchase will also increase opportunities for spontaneous sports for the municipality's residents. Lasse Johansson, chairman of the culture and leisure committee, said, "The hall is prepared with large free areas for easy conversion to handle activities like skateboarding and beach volleyball.
It contains changing rooms and a 'hangout area' suitable for lifestyle sports. " The exact timeline for the purchase and conversion of the hall has not been determined, and it is unclear how the 32 million kronor purchase will be funded by Kalmar municipality. Specific additional activities beyond beach volleyball and skateboarding are also not yet detailed.
