Residents of Kalix, Sweden faced multiple criminal threats on February 25, 2026, with both an elderly woman's home robbery and a wave of SMS fraud targeting the community. According to the Norrländska Socialdemokraten, 98-year-old Mary Lundberg had her home burglarized twice using a home care service key, resulting in the theft of 2,000 kronor and her bank card. The suspected thief was reportedly acquitted by the court of appeal, leaving Lundberg without compensation until Kalix municipality's social chief Anna-Lena Andersson intervened.
Separately, police reported a surge in SMS fraud targeting Kalix residents born in the 1960s. The Norrbotten Police stated they received six reports in the past 24 hours involving fraudulent messages claiming to be from 'Marginalen bank' regarding unpaid invoices. Victims who called the provided phone numbers were allegedly misled into using BankID or performing financial transactions.
The most important thing is to feel that someone cares
Police have issued warnings urging residents not to share codes or bank cards with unknown persons, not to log in with BankID if prompted by strangers, and to avoid clicking links in suspicious emails or SMS messages.
