Kalix municipality has decided to continue operating its OB preschool, which offers childcare during evenings and weekends, despite high operating costs per child. According to a report in Norrländska Socialdemokraten published on April 2, 2026, the Education Committee in Kalix had been considering whether to maintain the current operation or find alternative solutions for the service.
The preschool, specifically Lyran's preschool's Månen department, currently has eight children enrolled in the program. While some children attend weekly, most use the service only a few times per month. Viktoria Wikström commented on the decision, stating: "Preschool at inconvenient times is used to such a low degree in Kalix, but it is so important for those who need it."
