The Jönköping Marathon 2026 is being planned with record interest, officials said. Munksjöbron will again serve as the start and finish location. The bridge will close on Friday, August 28, 2026 at 9:00 AM, a time adjusted based on feedback from the 2025 event to allow morning rush hour to subside, according to Julia Thor, Traffic Coordinator at Jönköping Municipality. "To give both road users and the organizer the best possible conditions, Munksjöbron will be closed at 9 AM on Friday, August 28. This means that the morning rush will have subsided, while the organizer gets time to safely set up the expo and finish area during the morning," Thor said.
The municipality is collaborating with Destination Jönköping and JLT for the event. The weekend is expected to be a street festival in the city. Caroline Törnblad, Head of Events and Destination Development at Destination Jönköping, said: "It is clear that many appreciate both the race and Jönköping. Our ambition is that Jönköping Marathon, like all our events, should create a wonderful experience for participants, spectators, and residents alike. We are aware that the event leads to temporary traffic closures, and we and the organizer thank you for the consideration and patience that make it possible to together create a vibrant and attractive Jönköping." David Lundberg, Bus Manager at JLT, added: "For us, it is important that public transport works as well as possible and that passengers receive clear and accurate information, even when traffic is affected. By being involved early in the planning, we want to reduce the impact and create better conditions for both passengers and events."
