Key Points
  • Jet2 banned a couple for life after lewd in-flight behavior
  • Incident occurred during takeoff on a flight to Gran Canaria
  • Passengers alerted crew and video evidence was captured

The incident occurred during takeoff on the four-hour flight to Gran Canaria, where the holidaymakers were seen performing lewd acts with each other. Other passengers alerted the crew to the issue once the plane was airborne, describing the behavior as shocking. Passenger Darren Street, traveling with his wife Lisa, described the scene as incredibly blatant, with a lot of vigorous movement. He accidentally captured the lewd behavior on video while recording during take-off.

The crew responded promptly, with the crew considering turning the plane back to East Midlands Airport. Darren Street said the crew initially stated they would turn the plane around when first told, and later emphasized the seriousness by noting they would have to deal with it straight away. This consideration was due to the disruptive nature of the incident, which occurred at the beginning of the flight.

When confronted, the couple offered a bizarre explanation. Darren Street described that the couple claimed they were praying because it was their first time on a plane. The couple did not say anything further but appeared unhappy, according to the same source.

As a consequence, the couple faced immediate repercussions. They were barred from boarding their return flight by Jet2 and even kicked out of their hotel. Jet2 issued a statement confirming the lifetime ban, with a spokesperson saying the customers have been banned for life and that as a family-friendly airline and holiday company, they take a zero-tolerance approach to appalling behaviour such as this. The airline's policy underscores its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all passengers, especially given that other passengers reported informing staff because there were children on the plane.
