Jack Berglund, a 19-year-old center, has signed a three-year rookie contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, leaving his Swedish club Färjestad. The contract was confirmed by both clubs on their respective websites. Berglund was drafted by the Flyers in the second round of the 2024 NHL draft.
He will join the Flyers' AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, for the remainder of the season. According to NHL reporter Charlie O'Connor, Berglund will reportedly get a chance to showcase himself during the Flyers' training camp for next season. If he does not secure a spot on the NHL team, he could technically be loaned back to Sweden, though an agreement might later be made for him to play in the AHL instead.
Berglund reportedly said returning to Sweden next season is an alternative, but he will focus on finishing the current season first.
Berglund was part of the Swedish team that won gold at the World Junior Championships this winter and served as captain for that team. He had a breakthrough season with Färjestad in the SHL, scoring 12 points in 40 games. Färjestad's sports director, Rickard Wallin, expressed happiness for Berglund and said the club hopes to loan him back next year.
