Reza Pahlavi, son of Iran's last shah, has been invited to address the Swedish parliament next week. The invitation comes from the parliamentary groups of the Christian Democrats (KD) and Sweden Democrats (SD), according to Swedish media reports.
Pahlavi, who has lived in the United States as an opposition figure against the Iranian regime, is scheduled to speak in the Riksdag on Monday. Magnus Berntsson, foreign policy spokesperson for the Christian Democrats, confirmed the invitation to Svenska Dagbladet.
He is the person who can unite the opposition in Iran
"He is the person who can unite the opposition in Iran," Berntsson told the newspaper, expressing strong support for Pahlavi's visit. The exiled prince is the son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran who was overthrown in the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The visit represents a significant political gesture by the two Swedish parliamentary groups, highlighting Sweden's engagement with Iranian opposition figures. Pahlavi has spent his adult life in exile advocating for democratic change in Iran.
