IKEA to phase out parts of MALM range from 2025
Key Points
  • IKEA confirms partial phase-out of MALM range starting summer 2025
  • Products axed include bedside tables, bed frames, and some dressing tables and chests of drawers
  • IKEA opens first hybrid store in UK with Decathlon in Croydon

According to multiple reports, IKEA has confirmed plans to partially scrap the MALM range, which was launched in 2002. Parts of the range will be phased out from summer 2025, with all stock set to disappear by 2027. Products being axed include bedside tables, bed frames, and many dressing tables and chests of drawers. An IKEA spokesperson said: "We know our products carry real and special meaning in homes all over the world and we are committed to meeting people in ways that reflect how they live today. As part of that commitment, parts of the MALM range will be phased out globally as we introduce more options built around the preferences and needs of people today."

Separately, IKEA launched its first 'hybrid' store in the UK this week, partnering with Decathlon in Croydon. The Decathlon unit is 12,787 square feet and stocks over 5,000 products. Kim Chin-Sung, Market Manager for IKEA Croydon, said: "We first opened IKEA Croydon back in 1992 and since then, the way people shop has changed. At IKEA, we believe that our physical stores have a vital role to play, as a shopping destination and to inspire customers. The new Decathlon unit coming to IKEA Croydon is the latest example of us investing in and reimagining our stores to ensure customers and co-workers continue to get the most out of these spaces." Monica Cedres, London City Director at Decathlon UK, added: "We’ve been looking forward to this day, and after a true team effort, we can’t wait to finally jump into action alongside our neighbours at IKEA. This partnership is all about making an active lifestyle as easy as a trip to IKEA."
