  • Chairman Fredric Lundqvist says move benefits all Luleå football
  • Club has made several appointments and signings, including academy manager and sports director

According to Kuriren, IFK Luleå chairman Fredric Lundqvist described the move as being for the benefit of all Luleå football, not just IFK Luleå. The club, founded in 1900, played one season in Allsvenskan in 1971 and currently competes in Division 2 Norrland, the fourth tier of Swedish football. IFK Luleå plays home matches at Nyabvallen, which has a capacity of 5,000.

Research indicates the club has approximately 650 children and youth in its football activities. The club has appointed Andreas 'Ante' Johansson as academy manager and Christian 'Kisse' Samuelsson as new sports director for the men's side. It has also signed a new five-year agreement with Nyab and brought in William Nordell from Bodens BK.

We strive to get higher up in the league system. We are doing this for all of Luleå's football, not just for IFK Luleå.

Fredric Lundqvist, Chairman of IFK Luleå

In January 2026, two youth teams from IFK Luleå split off as leaders took children and formed new teams in Luleå FC, according to Kuriren. On the field, IFK Luleå conceded only four goals in the first eight matches of the 2025 Division 2 season. According to Norrländska Socialdemokraten, defender Jonatan Vikström described no clear pattern to the conceded goals but acknowledged defensive work is needed.

There is no clear pattern but we know we have things both in the low and high defensive play that we need to work on.
