The handball club IFK Karlskrona has filed for bankruptcy with the Blekinge District Court. The club, founded in 1921, reportedly has debts exceeding one million kronor. According to the club's chairman Bengt Weidfors, there are only losers in this situation.
Last year, the club paused its league play for both women's and men's teams to focus on youth activities, citing economic problems due to high costs for coaches and players and a budgeting error from the 2024 season. The youth activities, run as a separate association called IFK Karlskrona U, are not affected by the bankruptcy and will continue.
