According to Norrländska Socialdemokraten, Ulrika Kommes, owner of Laponia rederi, said the company moved its tour boats to Norra hamn because strong winds were expected in Södra hamn. Ice remained in Norra hamn, and S/M Symfoni had to push it aside. Kommes noted that usually they wait for the ice to open by itself.
Laponia rederi operates two vessels. M/S Laponia offers cruises with food, guiding, and entertainment in the Bay of Bothnia archipelago. M/S Symfoni runs Luleå municipality's archipelago traffic in 2025. Booking for Laponia cruises is done via a form on the website, with confirmation sent by email. Payment is made onboard by card or cash; Mastercard and Visa are accepted, but not American Express or Diners. Free cancellation is allowed up to one week before departure (more than 8 persons: two weeks). A booking fee of 10 SEK per ticket applies. A season pass for M/S Symfoni costs 1840 SEK and can be purchased at Luleå Tourist Center in Kulturens hus. Passengers with a season pass are recommended to pre-book their seat with Laponia rederi by phone. Summer church services are held at chapels on the islands of Malören and Småskär, and Laponia rederi offers trips to these in cooperation with the local parish.
We need to move the boats because it's going to start blowing a lot in Södra hamn. But there is still ice left and Symfoni needs to push it away.
Usually we wait until the ice opens up by itself.
