Key Points
  • Climate demonstration in Karlstad drew 300-350 participants.
  • Trondheim run attracted several hundred people, causing traffic disruption.
  • Karlstad demonstration had more participants than last year.

The Karlstad Climate Network organized a non-partisan climate demonstration on Saturday under the slogan 'Climate Action NOW! Save what we love', according to major media reports. The march through central Karlstad attracted many participants. According to SVT Värmland, Tore Pettersson, an administrator for the network, estimated around 300-350 people took part. He said there was a craving among many to see action on climate issues. The network includes members from the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation, Värmland Against Nuclear Power, Rebel Moms/Dads, and individuals. A similar demonstration was held last year, but according to Pettersson, more people joined this year.

In Trondheim, several hundred people attended a joint run on Sunday morning in fine weather, according to multiple reports. The run route was six kilometers long on Lade. Buses, cars, cyclists, dog owners, hikers, and families with children had to stop as the wave of runners approached. Many people were visibly flustered by the large crowd in flashy running shoes and heart rate monitors. Several people took out their phones to film being overtaken by the running wave. The exact number of participants and the organizer of the run remain unclear.

We haven't counted, but I would guess there were about 300-350 in the march.

I think there is a craving among many to see that someone is doing something and marking that the climate is important. It may not make a big difference for politics, but we encourage each other and highlight the problems.
