Hundreds of people gathered in a sports hall in Kalmar on Saturday to celebrate Eid, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. The event was organized by the Muslim community in Kalmar. Among the volunteers was 19-year-old Enya Widén, who recently converted to Islam and completed her first Ramadan.
She described fasting as a special feeling that builds community, though she found giving up caffeine difficult. Mohammad Alkwamla, treasurer of the Muslim community in Kalmar, said the celebration aims to spread joy and warmth, especially for children after the fast. He noted it is particularly important this year due to conflicts worldwide, as many attendees have relatives and friends in war-torn areas, providing a temporary escape from worry.
