Emergency services were called to Brooke Wood, a wooded area off The Ridgeway in Enfield, after an Enfield Council worker found the skull. According to a Metropolitan Police spokesperson, officers attended around 12:00 hours on Tuesday, 7 April, following the discovery of suspected human remains. Police have since located 80% of the rest of the bones, which were beneath the skull, and identification was found at the scene. It is estimated the body had been there since September 2022, but the identity of the person and cause of death remain unknown.
The matter is not believed to be suspicious at this stage, the Met spokesperson said, though enquiries continue to establish the circumstances. Meanwhile, in Coventry, police are appealing to identify a man whose body was found inside a wheelie bin in a park. A member of the public discovered the man in Cash’s Park off Daimler Road last month.
The man is believed to have been aged between 40 and 50, but his identity remains unknown. He has a tattoo of a cross with a snake wrapped around it on his back and the words 'Little Stardust', as well as a tattoo on his right arm saying 'nan' with a clover and the colors of the Irish flag. According to DCI Phil Poole, a large team of detectives, forensic specialists, and other staff are working around the clock to establish what happened to the man, who he is, and who is responsible.
DCI Poole added that several pieces of information have come through as a direct result of the appeal, and police are following up those lines of enquiry. He emphasized that police want to hear from anyone who recognizes the descriptions of the tattoos on the man, as they are quite distinctive. The cause of death for the man found in Coventry and who is responsible are still under investigation.
