  • Authorities issued penalty orders for unsafe residential buildings in Hudiksvall.
  • The owner's previous hostel burned down, highlighting ongoing safety concerns.
  • The owner has three months to fix electrical issues or face further penalties.

The Norrhälsinge Environment and Rescue Committee decided on Thursday on a number of penalty orders against a property owner in Hudiksvall municipality. According to sources, the property owner has several substandard residential buildings that have been classified as life-threatening. The property owner is the same person who owns the old hostel in Iggesund, which burned down to the ground in mid-February and left several residents homeless.

The Environment and Rescue Committee has now decided on several penalties, partly for deficiencies related to living environment and partly for deficiencies regarding fire safety. ' The penalty for permanent residence is 150,000 kronor, together with a recurring penalty of 25,000 kronor. The recurring penalty is repeated at each inspection occasion where it is determined that someone is still living there.

We have imposed a penalty and prohibition against permanent residence on the property in Sanna.

Per Svensson, Chairman of the Environment and Rescue Committee

The Iggesund man is considered difficult to deal with and difficult to get in touch with, according to Per Svensson. When authorities make their visits to inspect the properties, they request assistance from the police. It involves coordinated inspections with several authorities such as the Enforcement Authority, the Environmental Office, the Rescue Service, the Building Permit Office, and the Electrical Safety Authority.

SVT has sought the Iggesund man, who has not responded. It concerns one property in Iggesund and two in Hudiksvall, with one and the same owner. The deficiencies in the properties are extensive and concern electrical safety.

There was nothing regarding fire safety that was arranged at these properties.

Per Svensson, Chairman of the Environment and Rescue Committee

They mean that the properties do not meet the law's requirements for a safe living environment, according to the Electrical Safety Act. The municipality's immediate use prohibition testifies to the seriousness of the situation. 13 people are registered at the addresses.

The property owner has three months after service to remedy the deficiencies. It practically involves a complete modernization of the properties' electrical systems. If the owner does not remedy the deficiencies within the deadline, a penalty of 120 thousand kronor per property is imposed.
