Hubble images spiral galaxy NGC 3137 with black hole
Key Points
  • NGC 3137 is a spiral galaxy 53 million light-years away in Antlia.
  • It belongs to the NGC 3175 group, comparable to the Local Group.
  • A central black hole has an estimated mass of 60 million solar masses.

Hubble observed NGC 3137 as part of an observing program focusing on star clusters in 55 nearby galaxies. The image was created from observations in six different color bands. Researchers have found more than 500 dwarf galaxy candidates in the NGC 3175 group.

However, the exact number of dwarf galaxies in the group remains uncertain. Additionally, the precise mass of the black hole and the ages of the star clusters are not yet known.
