Ynys Gifftan is a tidal island located in Snowdonia National Park, off the coast of Portmeirion in north Wales. According to major media reports, the island belonged to Queen Anne in the 1700s, and she gifted it to the ancestors of a local landowner, Lord Harlech. The name Ynys Gifftan translates to English as Anne's Gift Island.
Queen Anne was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland from 1702 until her death in 1714. The island is only accessible on foot for up to three hours either side of low tide, and it includes a Victorian farmhouse that has been uninhabited for nearly 60 years. The farmhouse is in need of renovation, having been abandoned for more than 200 years.
Ynys Gifftan has no mains electricity, and its plumbing is questionable and might need a new water system. The exact condition of the plumbing system on Ynys Gifftan is unknown. 74 acres of land that has become overgrown and would benefit from grazing and management.
There is another building on Ynys Gifftan with potential for conversion. The island is near the villages of Talsarnau, Harlech, and Portmeirion, and St David's Golf Club, once ranked second best in Britain, is across the water from Ynys Gifftan. The £350,000 asking price is just above the £300,000 average for a house in the UK.
Estate agent Hugh O'Donnell said, 'A lot of people have been in contact with us and are interested in what it is and seeing if it suits them. ' Potential buyers are warned to take care and caution during inspections and remain vigilant for personal safety. How much it would cost to renovate the farmhouse and install utilities is not specified.
